The rivers chasing us is a group performance exploring connection through vibration—whether with a river, a wall, a plant, a machine, our skin and organs, a ruin, or a disappearing landscape.

Using sound and bodily interaction, this work attempts to reveal what lies beneath everything: the space itself, a silent host. Like resonating boards, the four performers honor and acknowledge the presence of the environment. Caught between the desire to be held and the fear of being touched, they offer their flesh, are cradled by voices, and become connected bodies.

The piece proposes a meditation on time, erosion, resonance, and the complexity of intimate and collective touch.

Performers: Gaëtan Rusquet, Henna-Maria Hanhineva, Inkeri Kurkilahti, Viivi Vierinen

Gaëtan Rusquet (he/they) is an artist working across performance, dance, theatre, and visual arts. For him, everything is a medium, whether it is light, sound, space, body, or materials. His interest lies in the interconnectivity of these elements, their agency, their capacity to act or manifest. The medium, in this context, is not only a vector of communication, but a body with which we are in relation, and a dialogue between different forms of reality; between the visible and the invisible. Rusquet’s desire is to explore the subtle links between matter and consciousness through performative gestures.

His work has been presented at festivals and venues such as Trouble Festival (Belgium), Impulstanz (Austria), MDT Stockholm (Sweden), Centre Pompidou (France), Theater Avantgarden (Norway), Accionmad (Spain), FRAC Lorraine (France), Kaaitheater (Belgium), Palais de Tokyo (France), Homonovus Festival (Latvia), Festival Actoral (France), and Europalia (Belgium).
