OPEN CALL: Festival’s writing group

Are you interested in writing about performance art and live art? New Performance Turku Festival’s writing group is making a comeback!

The purpose of the writing group is to write about performance art, each writer from their own personal viewpoint. You don’t have to be an expert in contemporary art or writing to take part. The language of the group is Finnish and English. The texts can be written in any language.

The writing group’s commission is to write texts that open up first impressions, feelings and causations emerged by the performance works. You may depict what inspired, wondered, impacted or moved you in some other way. The fundamental idea is that the text is a quick reaction and reception to the performance – not doing a profound study or critique on the subject. Style and point of view are free.

Writing group’s texts will be published during the festival on festival’s web page, newperformance.fi. The writers can naturally use the texts in any other platform they wish.

The selected members of the writing group will meet on Monday 31st August 2021 at 18 (remotely). The last day to apply is on Sunday 8th of August 2021. The applications can be submitted with this form.

The leader of the writing group is poet, MA, Virpi Vairinen. She has created several co-works with artists of different fields and has taught writing about artworks at the University of Turku. She has published four anthologies and is currently a nominee for Finnish Broadcast Company’s poetry award.
